Building Inclusive Futures
Throughout East Africa

We Work Differently

We strengthen local organizations, government institutions, and partnerships so programs are inclusive, scalable, and sustainable long after funding ends.

We often partner from behind—working alongside local organizations to strengthen their leadership, delivery, and long-term impact.

We don't just deliver programs - we make sure they continue without us.

The Problem We Address

Across East Africa, millions of persons with disabilities are still unable to access basic services like healthcare, education, and employment. Many are excluded not only from opportunities, but from everyday life—facing stigma, isolation, and sometimes being hidden within their own communities.

Women and girls continue to face daily barriers to safety, education, and economic independence. Gender-based violence remains widespread, and many survivors are unable to access the support and services they need. Social norms and limited resources often mean their voices are not heard—in their homes, their communities, or in decisions that affect their lives.

These challenges are different, but they often overlap. Women and girls with disabilities face even greater barriers, yet are too often overlooked in programs, data, and decision-making.Sample text. Click to select the Text Element.

"But the issue goes beyond access. It is also about how development programs are designed.

 Too often:

  • Programs end when funding ends
  • Inclusion is treated as an add-on, not built in from the start
  • Local organizations do not receive the sustained support needed to continue the work
  • Governments are not fully engaged to scale what works
  • Data is collected but not used to inform decisions

 The Result

Strong projects - but change that doesn't last.

The Communities We Serve

Persons with Disabilities

Across East Africa, too many persons with disabilities are left out of the services and support they need to live full, independent lives.

Women and Girls

Women and girls continue to face risks to their safety, limited access to education and income, and too little say in decisions that shape their futures.

What are People Saying?

I can see again—and I can work again. This changed my life.

Program Participant

Through the EnableMe Kenya community, I got a scholarship to study software engineering online. They also helped me access training through CREA Institute. It’s been a huge boost.

I have gained confidence in myself since I started working with KEFEADO as a volunteer and now as an employee. As a young woman, I’m breaking barriers and pushing my self-belief which has led to me being elected as a chair in National Agriculture Value Chain Development Program - Siaya County Chapter.

I once believed my child was cursed and abandoned him out of fear. But a community session opened my eyes — disability isn’t a curse. I learned about support, inclusive schools, and met parents who gave me hope. I brought my child home and now proudly stand by his side, believing in his potential - Maasai community.

...we will use our networks to enhance our knowledge on tax justice for women and people with disabilities. We will also use and build on the knowledge gained through our ongoing projects to support women - Practical Action Engaging Residents on Basic Insights on Taxation.

KEFEADO

We didn’t have to move around much. We had accommodations, meals, and two class schedules to choose from. The afternoon slot worked best for me. After classes, we held peer discussions. Our sighted classmates would walk us through what we missed. That’s how we made it.
